Handling of jewelry

To prevent possible damage to gemstones and metals in everyday life, please note the following tips for handling your jewelry.

  • Strenuous physical activity can cause impact damage.
  • Washing hands or exposure to household cleaners can cause jewelry to corrode or discolor, or cause allergic reactions on the skin.
  • Sudden temperature changes may damage jewelry.
  • Swimming in saltwater or chlorinated water can cause jewelry damage. Cold water can also cause your fingers to contract, which can loosen the ring and cause it to come off your finger.
  • The use of lotions, perfumes, hairspray, or other cosmetics may adhere to jewelry as stains or form a film that may cause the jewelry to lose its luster.
  • Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight may damage certain gemstones such as emeralds and turquoise.
  • Gardening and use in sandy areas can cause wear to gemstones and metals such as diamonds.
  • Wearing the jewelry while sleeping may cause impact to the jewelry due to unintentional movement, and may also cause swelling and other negative effects on the body due to blood circulation.

Protection from damage

All jewelry is exposed to various sources of damage.

By preventing wear as much as possible, damage can be minimized.

Possible causes of damage

  • Impact: Impact can cause breakage of gemstones or damage to metal.
  • Chemical products: Contact can corrode gemstones and metals.
  • Water: Prolonged immersion can cause discoloration of the metal and deterioration of the gemstone.
  • Beauty products: Residue can impair luster and cause allergic reactions.
  • Sunlight, heat: Prolonged exposure to light or heat can cause cracking or discoloration of certain gemstones.
  • Deterioration: Daily wear without adequate professional care can cause metals and gemstones to deteriorate.
  • Self-repair: Improper cleaning at home or repairing with inadequate techniques can cause damage.

Storage method

Metal-to-metal, jewelry-to-metal, and jewelry-to-jewelry contact can cause jewelry breakage or metal damage.
Check the condition of jewelry to prevent damage.
Check for problems with moving parts such as necklace or bracelet clasps, earring posts or clips. Problems with moving parts may cause stones to fall out or damage the jewelry.
Also, make sure that all jewels are securely fastened and that there are no problems with the joints.
When not in use, jewelry should be stored in a soft pouch, in the box provided at the time of sale, or in a fabric case with partitions to prevent contact between metal and jewelry.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance is essential to the longevity of your jewelry. For this reason, we recommend the following methods

  • Regular cleaning: Regular cleaning is effective in preventing stains and keeping the jewelry’s original brilliance.
  • However, not all jewelry is suitable for home cleaning. Items with intricate decorations, vintage pieces, or delicate, low-hardness materials such as emeralds, turquoise, coral, pearls, and other silk items should always be sent to a professional cleaning service.
  • Professional cleaning: bring your jewelry to a salon at least once a year or as needed for professional cleaning services.
  • Salon service: In-store cleaning is available at some salons only if the item is in good condition.
  • Keep in Service: Your jewelry will be inspected by our experts in our workshop and polished, refinished, or repaired as necessary.
